The exciting redevelopment of Adlington Walk at Merseyway shopping centre is to begin next week.
The works will mean the temporary closure of Adlington Walk – the undercover area that connects the main mall to Chestergate and Stockport Old Town – in the coming weeks until Autumn 2020. All businesses will remain open and clear directional signage will be in place to show visitors the quickest routes to access the Post Office, beauty salon Lashious and Age UK. Regular updates for customers will also be provided on the centre’s website www.merseyway.com and on its social channels.
Adlington Walk is the first stage of redevelopment at Merseyway and will feature ‘best in class’ high quality toilets, parent and child facilities and a Quiet room. The redevelopment will also include a new stair and lift core, bringing people down from the rooftop car park and into the centre through a fantastic ‘hotel lobby’ style entrance with real ‘wow factor’. New landscaping will improve the links to the historic core of Stockport and the new Interchange being constructed by TfGM (due for completion 2022).
The redevelopment of Adlington Walk is being delivered by Graham Construction and is part of a package of works that will see new shop-fronts, landscaping and public realm improvements to Merseyway over the next few years. The contract with Graham Construction offers work placement and training opportunities for the local community – including apprentices and upskilling the workforce working on Adlington Walk. The Council and local employment and skills support partners will be helping to target opportunities at local jobseekers.
The redevelopment project is being designed by architects AEW. CBRE manages Merseyway on behalf of Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council.
