Give Every Head a Bed

Merseyway has launched an urgent appeal for donations to help provide the necessities for a good night’s sleep for children who are most in need in Stockport.

In collaboration with UK charity organisation, Zarach, and local food bank, Chelwood Food Bank Plus, Stockport shoppers will be able to donate a variety of bedroom items for local children living in poverty.

Located outside Specsavers, Merseyway has launched the campaign with a jarring display including an infant bed, showcasing the differences between a child that doesn’t live in poverty, and one that does. A donation bin has also been installed, where visitors can drop resources to be distributed to those most in need in the local community.

Merseyway will be accepting a variety of donations for the campaign, including 10.5 tog duvets, single fitted sheets, single bedding sets and children’s pyjamas aged 2 – 16 years.

Cllr Helen Foster Grime, Cabinet Member for Communities and Housing at Stockport Council, said: “This is an important initiative to help families who may be experiencing hardship. Having essentials such as a comfortable and safe bed in their home can really make a difference to a young person’s life. We have a real culture of supporting each other here in Stockport and the generosity of local people, time and time again, is testament to this.”

Centre Manager, Victoria Nichol said: “Merseyway is dedicated to helping those most in need in our community and it’s heartbreaking to hear so many people are suffering- especially children. Zarach is a fantastic organisation that has helped many families living in poverty across the UK and by collaborating with Chelwood Food Bank Plus, we know these resources will be provided to those who need them most in Stockport. Due to the generosity of our shoppers in previous campaigns, we’re confident they will get behind this initiative and help make a real difference in our community”.

Hubs & Projects Co-Ordinator at Zarach, Jess Sandy said: “Zarach is excited to be partnering with Chelwood Foodbank Plus and Merseyway to give Every Head a Bed in Stockport. We are thrilled that the people of Stockport are excited to get behind this campaign, and we hope the Hub can make a big impact on the lives of local children and families. Your generous donations of items included in our Bed Bundles – along with a brand-new bed and mattress provided by Zarach – will help enable children experiencing bed poverty to get a good night’s sleep.”
