Supporting the local community it serves, is very much the ethos of Merseyway Shopping Centre in Stockport. A community-first strategy has been adopted at this centre, meaning the town and its people are at the forefront of every campaign.
During periods of uncertainty over recent years, Merseyway has supported its community through campaigns including its Giving Tree – a Christmas campaign to provide presents for less fortunate children in the community and most recently, to provide vouchers for displaced Ukrainian families settling into life in Stockport. In response to the cost-of-living crisis, a dedicated Uniform Shop (managed in its entirety by the centre team) was launched in 2022 allowing hundreds of local families to benefit from pre-loved school uniforms in exchange for a small donation to a local food bank, and for 2023, the centre will be launching its first ever Giving Box, aiming to support four charities with much needed funds in the local area.
Collaborations with local partners including Age UK Stockport, Chelwood Foodbank, Stepping Hill Hospital, Stockport Ukrainian Club and photography enterprise, SAZ Media, amongst others, has enabled us to ensure that essential funds and support are provided to those most in need, whatever the cause, in our local community.
In our latest charity campaign we have collaborated with UK charity organisation, Zarach, and local food bank, Chelwood Food Bank Plus, Stockport shoppers and asked for donations for Give Every Head a Bed Campaign. For more information on this please visit the news section.
