Tesco Express Opening!

NEW TESCO EXPRESS STORE TO OPEN IN STOCKPORT THIS FRIDAY

A brand new Tesco Express is set to open its doors at Merseyway Shopping Centre this Friday, November 8th, bringing convenience and a wide range of shopping options to the town centre.

The spacious 3,367 sq ft store will offer customers an impressive selection of groceries, fresh produce, tasty bakery items, and everyday essentials—all in one convenient location. Perfectly situated at a prime location at Mersey Square, this Tesco Express is ideal for shoppers on the go, local workers, and nearby residents, including those at Stockport Interchange and the Weir Mill development, which completes in 2025.

But this new store isn’t just about great products; it’s also dedicated to making a positive impact in the community. Through initiatives like Tesco Stronger Starts, the store will provide essential financial support to schools, promoting healthy eating and activities that enhance the wellbeing of young people. Additionally, the Tesco Express will join the Community Food Connection scheme, which redistributes surplus food to charities and community groups every day. Since its launch in 2016, this initiative has donated over 145 million meals to charities across the UK.

The opening of Tesco Express marks another exciting new chapter for Merseyway, which has recently welcomed a brand-new JD store which opened at the centre earlier this month and Poundland which opened in September.

Merseyway is central to Stockport’s £1bn regeneration plans, playing a key role in the town’s vision of a thriving and vibrant town centre. Major projects include Stockroom, a new cultural and creative space set to open next year which will offer a library, café, and event spaces, and Merseyway Innovation Centre, providing co-working spaces and offices designed to support local businesses. Recent improvements to Merseyway’s public spaces, including new seating areas and landscaping, make it the perfect spot to shop, relax, and enjoy the heart of Stockport’s transformation.

Cllr Colin Macalister, Cabinet Member for Economy, Regeneration and Housing at Stockport Council, said: It’s great to welcome back Tesco as the newest addition to Merseyway, joining JD Sports and Poundland as part of the exciting growth here and showing real confidence from nationally renowned retailers.

“This opening highlights our commitment to transforming Merseyway and the wider area—a change that’s clear to see in our thriving high street and across the town centre. With the new transport interchange, good quality new homes being built and a thriving business community at Stockport Exchange, Stockport is becoming one of the best places in the country to live a happy and healthy life.

“It’s all part of our ‘One Stockport, One Future’ vision to make the town a vibrant, modern destination that everyone can enjoy.”

Victoria Nichol, Merseyway Centre Manager, said: “Tesco Express will be a fantastic addition to Merseyway, offering a convenient shopping option for both the local community and visitors. We had identified that there was a need for a high-quality supermarket retailer in this area of the town centre, so we’re thrilled to welcome Tesco and their team to the centre.”
